An off-grid solar energy system can be used as a mobile or back-up power supply for homes, medical clinics, telecommunications stations, meteorological stations, and forest fire stations, especially those located in areas without public utility grids, such as a remote islands and mountainous regions. In these cases, off-grid solar energy systems replace conventional power generation solutions such as a diesel generators.

Off-Grid Project: Maafushi Island

Yingli Green Energy has completed a major off-grid solar project in Maafushi island, Maldives for Male Water and Sewage Co., Ltd. The system generates 20,000kWh of electricity annually. It is estimated that this project will reduce carbon emissions by 5,440 tons per year.

Yingli offered Male Water and Sewage Co., Ltd. a complete turnkey solution, which included system design, equipment procurement, logistics support, and technical guidance. Through this process, Yingli Green Energy gained valuable expertise in the development of off-grid solar energy projects.
