Football for Hope. Energy for Hope.
FIFA’s Football for Hope program provides hundreds of thousands of underprivileged young people in Africa access to Football for Hope centers that use the power of football to promote health, education, and general well-being. The movement is a catalyst for innovation and social investment in various sectors of society. As new centers continue to become operational, the program is increasingly gaining recognition and attracting new resources and expertise, including in solar energy.
Using the Power of the Game for Positive Social Change
As part of our global sponsorship of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, we are working with FIFA to build 20 Football for Hope Centers across the African continent.
The program’s aim is to create 20 Football for Hope Centers that draw on the positive elements and global appeal of football to address challenges such as public health and education in disadvantaged communities across Africa. Each center is designed in collaboration with the community and a local nonprofit organization to ensure that infrastructure is consistent with local needs. The objective of the campaign is to leave a tangible social legacy for Africa far beyond the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
Yingli Green Energy is involved right from the start in the planning of the Centers, analyzing requirements and providing and installing customized PV system solutions. Our PV products will provide electricity for a broad range of uses at the Centers, from illuminating the football fields to powering air conditioners and computers.
