While the industry remained fixated on the race for simple installations, a profound transformation shaping the future of photovoltaic development was quietly taking root on the Western Sichuan Plateau. China’s first integrated hydro-PV-pumped storage project was successfully connected to the grid in the Xiaojinchuan River basin, with all PV modules supplied by Yingli Solar.

For Yingli Solar, the Xiaojinchuan project is situated on a plateau at an altitude of 3,700 meters, characterized by high elevation, hypoxia, intense ultraviolet radiation, and an effective construction period of fewer than five months. This demanded that every link—from product design and logistics delivery to on-site services and system integration—withstand extreme conditions. Leveraging over two decades of expertise in plateau projects, Yingli Solar tailored a comprehensive end-to-end solution for this specific initiative: optimizing the power generation curve for low-light environments to ensure precise coordination with the hydro-PV-pumped storage system; reinforcing load-bearing design to resist severe cold and strong winds, thereby withstanding extreme weather tests; and upgrading logistics plans to navigate complex terrain, guaranteeing timely and damage-free delivery. During the incoming inspections organized by the project owner, Yingli’s plateau-series products achieved a 100% pass rate.
Around the same time, in Shangri-La, Northwest Yunnan—far from the plateau—the Qixiutang Photovoltaic Power Generation Project (Phase II) achieved full-capacity grid connection in a high-altitude, rocky desertification area exceeding 4,300 meters above sea level. Fully utilizing Yingli’s plateau-specific modules, this project marks the full coverage of China’s four major plateaus by Yingli Solar’s high-efficiency PV solutions. Spanning the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Pamir Plateau, and Loess Plateau, Yingli Solar’s modules have undergone rigorous natural selection across every plateau, validating their reliability amid combined challenges including frequent cloudy/rainy conditions, strong UV radiation, and complex logistics. In Yunnan, Yingli has attained full-scenario coverage, encompassing agri-PV complementary systems, mountain PV installations, PV+ airport projects, and plateau PV stations. Within Yunnan’s first provincially coordinated million-kilowatt PV base, nearly 70% of the project clusters have selected Yingli modules.
Reflecting on Yingli Solar’s development trajectory, the company has never confined itself to a single technology or product dimension. Instead, it has integrated itself into every pivotal leap forward in China’s energy transition. From delivering the first electricity to remote rural areas to participating in the construction of national-level clean energy bases; from pioneering N-type technology to deeply cultivating diversified scenario integration; from earning consecutive "Top Performer" recognitions from internationally renowned testing institutes to consistently retaining a spot on the Tier 1 PV Module Manufacturer list—Yingli Solar has consistently proven that true competitiveness stems from unwavering commitments to reliability, in-depth engagement with specific application scenarios, and astute grasp of integration trends.
Today, as the integrated development of new energy sources emerges as a major trend, PV is no longer an isolated energy source. Instead, it achieves deep synergy with hydropower, solar, wind, storage, and end-use applications, adapting to the unique "rhythms" of plateaus, deserts, cities, and villages. In this context, PV has truly become an indispensable force driving the energy transition—and this is precisely the new future chapter that Yingli Solar is writing.
